an opiate, can stain the teeth (DG, UK MMPB, p.165)

 

on its forms and uses:

 

'a button of durhang...crumbling the moist pollen into her pipe bowl...The durhang tea had given her relief from the pain of her fractured ribs and her swollen jaw, but it had not been potent enough to dull her thoughts...she set flame to the durhang...A numbness was spreading through her...She extracted another button of durhang and popped it into her mouth, where it rested cool and sweet between cheek and gum...Her words came out slurred.'
